Week 10

Hey Family!

Things here in Guyana are great! The weather is hot always, which is good because it never feels like Christmas. Which means we sing Christmas hymns all the time! Elder Ruegger and I came out at the same time which means we are like co-companions? But this is my area so I do most of the planning and stuff because Elder Ruegger is so new. So, I’m the senior companion I guess.

This week was so awesome! I love it here so much! I know, even though it is super hard, that Jesus Christ and His Atonement can give us the power to do all things! This week I was able to see that love at the Baptism of Marsha. As she followed the example of Jesus Christ and was baptized unto repentance. I know that Christ loves Marsha, and me, and also everyone that reads this simple email from a boy that has no idea what he is doing! Even though I’m not a perfect missionary or a perfect person, I do know that He loves us! When we are good, when we are bad, when we are close or far. He suffered for our sins, he did that so we might live, and he was raised on the third day so that we can do the same! I Love you, and more importantly HE LOVES YOU! Be strong!

I did do something amazing for my birthday! I got the opportunity to teach the word of God to those that don't understand it yet! BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!! And yes I eat goat, it was delicious.

This week was all over the place, I’ll cover the highlights.

The Companion: Elder Ruegger is my new Companion! He is so cool! He lived in Logan before his mission, He loves Rugby and plays position 8, if that means anything to anyone.

The Transfer: I went and stayed with Elder Alitasi for a few days in Cangie it was cool! Their apartment is much more humble than ours, so I did my best to help clean and things like that!

The Baptism: Everything was great! We only had both the speakers missing and the opining prayer missing! And we almost forgot the Baptism clothes, twice. And I almost fell in the trench, twice! We really need to fix the bridge into the church... Marsha's baptism was amazing! Will you and the family write or email her? Will you bear your testimonies and stuff? I think that would be really cool!

I love it here so much! I love the people here so much! I love everything about this crazy place!!!

Week 9

Hello Everyone!

This week was off the wall! It was so much fun! I love the people here so much! And the weather is great! (Super hot and humid BAHAHAH) It’s great here! I love the work so much and I’m so happy to be doing the Lords work! I’m doing great, I’m feeling great and I only coughed up blood once! Sis Clawson (Mission nurse) said I would.

MON: Was the first day that went exactly as planned! Elder Cook and I totally lost it! BAAahahaAHHAhaha Any way we "taught" Kimberlee, she is totally distracted and we had to drop her because a lot of reasons. Then we went and saw the Dasses, they gave us Goat Curry! It was so good! Then we taught the Harrlalls a great lesson on the restoration! Hopefully they keep progressing!

TUES: Today we had a great DM on why we are on a mission and why we are staying on a mission. Then Elder Cooper and I exchanged! My first time leading out the area. Elder Cooper and I came out at the same time! Crazy! We taught Sheena and Marsha and a crazy FHE and Andy! Marsha is still good for the 27 to be baptized! I can’t wait! FHE was crazy because the Pres Hussains dad was drunk and fell out of his chair! Then with Andy we had a great lesson on the Restoration!

WEDS: Was a scrap day... We didn’t see a single one of the primary people that we planned for. But that is ok! Because tomorrow was a great day!

THUR: We taught Sheena and Marsha and taught about Enduring to the end! Then we taught Sis Sati Restoration 6 (She is very simple). Then we taught Rohan and his family the Rest. Then we taught Cynthia the BOM it was awesome!

FRI: Our bikes fell apart today and we had to fix them so we didn’t get out till like 6...

SAT: Transfer Calls! Elder Cook is going to Trinidad! He is super bummed... Poor Elder. And I’m staying in Rosehall and I am finishing the training of an Elder that came out with me his name is Elder Ruger! I’m super excited and horrified because I am leading out the area!

SUN: Fairly normal day. I’m now the assistant branch Clerk and have a lot of responsibility now! Super crazy!

This is gunna be an awesome adventure! Pray for me!

Week 8

Hola Familia!

This week was crazy awesome!! We had such a busy week. I don’t know how we keep up with all the demands that we have! But somehow we make it, and I love it so much! I love the work.

Monday we had a few great lessons. We taught Andy, his uncle just died and he had so many great questions about the Plan of Salvation POS (Even tho it is the opposite of a POS BAHAHAH) We also taught the Bacchus family again! They are progressing great! We are planning on giving them a Baptism date soon!!!

Tuesday was district meeting and exchanges. I "lead out the area" with Elder Peterson. He served in Rosehall for 5 transfers. So he totally knew everything that we were doing. It was great tho! We had a great lesson with Marsha and we are planning on giving her a baptism date here soon too!

Wednesday we exchanged back and saw a bunch of people. We saw Rohan, Kavo, Andrea, Dass, and Kimberlee. They were all great lessons! Andrea and the Dass Family both came to church on Sunday. Hopefully we can reactivate them soon!

Thursday Elder Cook and I gave back Marsha's Baptism date! She will most likely be ready for the 27 of August! She is such a great person and is so excited about the Gospel. She invited her JW's Friends over to a lesson and she comes and has other lessons with us!!

Friday I went on exchanges with Elder Nelson. He is from Jamaica and is about to die next transfer so he has tons of great experience. But most importantly, he made me Jerk fish. And I was 90% sure that I died and went to heaven.

Saturday we exchanged back and had some good lessons. Dolly and Sati and Renford. We taught the Restoration all day today! I love it!

Sunday was pretty "normal" We did all the things that missionaries do on Sunday. We also had a great lesson with Cynthia and Sis. Barbra. We taught the BOM and the Restoration in that order. Today was a huge horse race and it was really hard to get a car to take people around. So it was a huge blessing to see Sheena and Marsha at church! I was really nerves for them. But I think they are ready for Baptism.

I love it here so much! I love the work! I love the heat! I know that these people are looking for the gospel and they don’t even know they are looking for it! I love you all so much! thanks for all your prayers!

I told the story of Grandpa George and the gun and stuff to Elder Cook, Peterson, and Cooper. They are the only other missionaries in our District and Zone. We have a crazy split zone thing that is going on!

I’m still sick but I am working hard and there is nothing that can stop me from the work! And yes we talked to the mission doctor on the phone and she told me all the things to do to get better.

I love you all!
Love, Elder Andrus

Week 6

WEEK 6

Hello Earthlings!!
I love it here so much! (I leave out all the gross stuff I saw this week because its Gross) I’m so happy to be serving here in Guyana! This week was so crazy!! First things first, I want to let everyone know that I love all of you! and I have felt your prayers! Don’t stop because I need ‘em! (Elder Cook rides his bike like a crazy person and my legs are gunna’ be shredded!!)
Mon: Today was a good day! Elder Cook and I were gonna’ play chess but we both decided that a better use of our time was to sleep! So we did. Then we P-day was over we went and visited Cynthia and her dad came out and was so drunk! he Promised us at least 16521349754125 times that he was going to come to church. Super funny! Then we taught Kereem! It was such a good lesson.
Tues: We had District meeting and we had a good time with Elder Peterson and Cooper. The church was painted so we had it at our house. Then we taught Tanya and Sheena and Marsha. all good lessons. We were just an hour late to Tanya’s lesson because my chain was having stupid problems! Elder Cook can fix his chain as he is riding! that is awesome! Then we went and taught the Nerin Family. They had really good questions about God that we could answer all of them.
Weds: (Running out of time. Going for highlights) We taught a great lesson about God to Bro. Darnely. He is 89 and has gone to the temple. The only person in the branch. Then we taught his grandson, Quasey and Roseann They are super prepared and we are going to extend a baptism invitation soon.
Thurs: Kereem got thrown in jail because he had "Ammunition" under his house. We love kereem and we got super bummed out because he is in jail now...
Fri: we Got stuck in Blackbush all day! it was so funny! we walked so far... that’s ok though! we probably walked like 10 miles
Sat: Good day taught Sheena and Marsha
Sun: Sheena didn’t come to church Marsha missed Sacrament meeting. We are going to have to move around the baptism date... So sad... but we want quality because the church here is pretty weak...
Mon: we Flooded the Apartment. The Washing machine was draining into the shower like normal. then it started to leak everywhere else! BAHAHAHAHAHHAH Super funny!!!

Love, Elder Andrus
